What is gold filled?

You may find in some of my pieces I offer a 14k gold filled option, like in my nose studs for example.  14K gold fill is 65% gold plated on a base metal, in my case I use a brass core for strength. 

There is 100 times more gold in 14k gold filled (rolled gold) than in gold plate - it has far more gold than the few microns of gold coating you will find in gold plated pieces.  Gold fill is actually 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating.  Under normal wear with reasonable care that you would give any precious metal jewelry, 14k gold fill jewelry will not peel, flake, or ware off and can be treasured for a lifetime. 

Gold fill is tarnish-resistant like solid 14 karat gold and is safe for most people with sensitive skin who can wear solid 14 karat gold jewelry.  Caring for 14k gold filled jewelry is as easy as caring for any other precious metal jewelry.  So all in all, 14k gold filled jewelry is a long lasting, economical way to enjoy the luster of gold without the big price tag.
